About Us and Farming Practices: We’ve been in business since the early ‘60’s (I obtained a DBA from Ulster County late last year) and have always followed the Organic guidelines, although we are not “certified organic”. We raise all of our own seedlings from certified organic seed where possible. Soil amendments include: composted manures, granular lime, blood meal, bone meal, wood ashes, green sand and osomite (pulverized volcanic). If we have an insect infestation which we cannot control mechanically, we may use rotenone as a last resort; I think we used it a few times last year in localized areas of the potatoes and cabbage. My Dad still loves to give tours, and something he calls “nibble walks”. . We generally start picking around mid May and finish up sometime in November, although we had potatoes and winter squash in storage till the first of the year.

What: Whitecliff is a family operated farm based winery, with a beautiful tasting room surrounded by 25 acres of vineyard. We have an extensive selection of wines, with an emphasis on dry, food-friendly wines like Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, and are well known for our popular Awosting White—a light, refreshing blend of Seyval Blanc and Vignoles. We grow and know our grapes, and do all our winemaking on site at Whitecliff.
Where: Our Tasting Room in Gardiner is open 11:30-5:30 Thursday through Monday, March through December. Our wines are also available in many great local restaurants and a growing number of Hudson Valley wine stores.
About us and Farming Practices: By buying wine locally you’re supporting local farming, minimizing the use of fossil fuels for transporting foods, and are supporting an economically sustainable crop for Hudson Valley farmers. Whitecliff is very involved with promoting grape growing in the Valley, with owner and winemaker, Michael Migliore, currently serving as President of the Hudson Valley Grape Growers Association. While it isn’t possible to grow wine grapes with organic certification in this region because of disease pressure from the climate, we live in the middle of our vineyard and are very mindful of safe and healthy practices.
